What’s up everybody its Dono. I got a question about how many words can you put in a bar. Before we get into that I just wanted to mention the way that this question is written the the person obviously had some doubt about asking it. I want to clarify if you have any question at any time feel free to ask me and I will do my best to help you. I feel like anyone who puts down someone else for asking a question doesn’t realize that at some point they were at that level right we all have to learn these different things to to improve so absolutely all the time feel free to ask me whatever you want I’ll do my best to help you guys out. Moving on to the actual question which is how many words can fit a bar – We have to start with what a bar is. A bar is a measure of time in music. However depending on the speed of the song the bar might be longer or shorter. So the first thing we have to realize is that depending on what the song is you might be a little bit harder pressed to put in more or less words in each bar depending on how the music works. Now let’s talk a little bit about the actual words and fitting them into a bar. The problem with trying to fit words to a bar is that words can vary in length right. So you have a word like onomatopoeia which takes up the same amount of verbal space as put it on a pizza and those are a very different number of words in each one. So what we need to do is actually break it down into syllables and then figure out how many syllables can fit on a bar. As a general rule we’re going to see 10 to 16 syllables is what fits on most instrumentals on each bar. However it doesn’t always have to be 10 to 16. It could be super fast it might be hard to even get 10. It could be super slow you can easily get you know twenty. Ten to sixteen is a general rule that’s going to work for most beginners and most flow types so that’s what I would stick with. So to clarify when you’re trying to fill your bars don’t look at how many words but look at how many syllables because that’s going to be a better indicator of how well it’ll fit. Also if you don’t know how to count syllables already I recommend that you take some time to learn how to do so. It will help you in a ton of ways.
